Kids Prayer Guide
Why teach kids to pray? To show them that they can pray POWERFUL PRAYERS.
When kids are equipped to pray by themselves and for themselves, their relationship with Jesus turns from one where a parent is the “middle” man, and they now feel like they have the authority to go straight to Jesus. Their relationship and dependence on Jesus is strengthened and they find true faith in who He is.
I don’t think it should be odd for our children to pray alone. Will they be “perfect” prayers, well are any of ours? Kids need to understand that prayer is how we communicate with God, and it does not have to be done with an adult praying for them or with them. They can pray for themselves by themselves, whenever and wherever! When they have that plus the Word of God, they have everything they need.
Again, there is no such thing as the perfect prayer, but Jesus gave us an example of how to pray in MATTHEW 6:9-11 and it can help guide our prayer time if we don’t think we have the words or if we don’t know what to pray for.
This guide is scripture based and is meant for you and your children to go through together to show they too can pray powerful prayers. You’ll first discuss an overview of what prayer is and how Jesus modeled prayer through His life. Then, we’ll break down the Lord’s prayer (Matthew 6:9-11) to 5 areas of prayer.
Overtime, I hope this guide helps them become more confident in who Jesus is and more confident to pray powerful prayers.
INSTRUCTIONS
This guide is based off many adult guides out there using the 7 requests of the Lord’s prayer, but I simplified it for my children to 5. Using the link below you can print the booklet out for your child and do what I did, which is laminate it so they can reuse it over and over! Or go through it digitally! My thought around this guide is to teach them each area of the Lord’s prayer maybe monthly, weekly? It’s certainly not going to start off as a daily teaching, but something that we can build up to.
