DIY Sunburst Light Fixture

I found this globe light fixture at a Habitat for Humanity store for $3 and I knew I wanted a globe light fixture so I could create this faux sunburst light, so I grabbed it! Side note, I also found a HUGE flush mount mushroom light for $5 and two more light fixtures (in great shape) for practically nothing. Long story short, check out your local Habitat or Goodwill store for great deals on lights!

These are the look I was going for/inspired by. I didn’t want anything extreme like the fixture on the right, but liked how the burst was more pronounced.

I put a link to all the supplies and some globe semi flush mount light fixtures at the bottom of this post. All in this little upgrade cost me $7. Easy, cost effective and upscales the room!

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:
Globe Semi Flush Mount Light Fixture
Skewers (The ones I used were 10” long)
Hot Glue Gun
Spray Paint

I went ahead and spray painted all the skewers before I cut them down. Then, start by figuring out how long you want your starbursts to be. I bought skewers that were 10” long and kept some that were that length, and then cut the rest down to 9” and 8” so I can stagger them and create the sunburst.

Once I figured out the sizes of the start bust, I started out by placing the 10” skewers, since those would be the guides for where the others would be placed. I can honesty say, I did not measure or really think about where each were supposed to be placed.. Anyways, I placed 8 10” skewers around the light with hot glue. Once those were placed, I put two 8” and one 9” skewer in between two of the 10” skewers to create one sun burst fan. I then I proceeded to do that in between the rest of the 10” skewers. And DONE. Seriously, that’s it.

You can put more skewers up around the light to make it more impactful, but I just wanted to keep it simple and not too dramatic.
