DIY Interchangeable Wood Picture Frames

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:
- (1) 1/4” x 2’ x 4’ sanded plywood
- Mini hinge clips or hook clips
- Super Glue
- Wood Glue

TOOLS:
- Saw (Jigsaw, table saw, circular saw, whatever you want to use!)
- Nail Gun

This is the most simplistic thing I've ever made and you can get this done in a day.

We’re currently renting this house and really we’re not supposed to nail anything to the walls (which, I guess I haven’t because these are being held up by “no nail” pins), but I couldn’t look at this white wall anymore!! The white couch with the white wall, and the white tile, it just wasn't working for me. I wanted to do something simple that matched our wood tones and was something I could change out whenever I wanted. So I decided to make these two interchangeable wood frames from one piece of 2’x4’ plywood.

Here are the cuts you’ll need from your 1/4” x 2’ x 4’ plywood panel:

(2) 19” x 23.875" - backs

(4) 7/8” x 18.25” - top and bottom

(4) 7/8” x 23.875" - sides

Once your pieces are cut you’ll use a nail gun, and wood glue if you'd like, to secure the trim pieces to the top (7/8” x 18.25” flush to the top and bottom of the back pieces) and sides (7/8” x 23.875” flush to the left and right sides of the back pieces). You'll nail through the back of the backing into the trim.

I planned on keeping the edges just like you see in step three, but then I decided to cover them with thin moulding I had laying around to make them more “finished”. You can see picture 4 for the comparison! Then I stained them. You could paint them if you’d like or leave them unstained, it's up to you!

Once the frames were dry, I super glued a hinge clip in each corner 2.375” from each side and 1.375” from the top and bottom. When I say placed 2.375” from each side, or top and bottom, that means from the nearest side of the clip to the edge of the frame.

Once your hinges are on you're ready to hang your photos! The print size that fit these frames are 20”x15”. I purchased mine from the app (not sponsored) FreePrints. If you don't have this app and like to print a lot of photos, download it!
