DIY Faux Metal Candle Clip Ornaments
I saw these beautiful metal candle clip on ornaments on a tree off Pinterest and started searching for them to put on my tree! Come to find out, they’re vintage, and not easy to get. I found a few options for battery operated candle clip ornaments, but they all looked a little too, eh, for me. Naturally, I decided to make them!
P.S. If you don’t want to make these yet, check out the links to a few options of candle clip ornaments at the bottom!
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED:
- Tapered Candles (I bought 10” candles and cut them down to different sizes)
- Wick Clips
- Alligator Clips
- 4” Clear Mini Plates
- Spray paint
- Hot Glue Gun
Optional:
- Powered Screw Driver
- Hot Knife
This project is very simple! Essentially there are three steps.
STEP 1: Hot glue the wick clips onto the top of the mini plates.
STEP 2: Hot glue the alligator clips onto the bottom of the mini plates. Be sure to not glue the alligator clips directly in the middle of the plates, because you want to be able to open the alligator clip to put it onto the branches.
STEP 3: Spray paint them! You can use whatever color you’d like, just cover the top and bottom of the plate and clip.
STEP 4: This was the most “difficult” part of the project. I bought 10” tapered candles and cut them down from 4” - 6”. I didn’t want them to all be the same height. I cut them by heating up a regular butter knife in water. You can use a hot knife if you have one! Then, I drilled a hole with I believe a 1/8” drill bit, very small, into the bottom of the candle. This helped me to then press the candle down into the wick clip on the plate.
And they’re done! Add them around your tree to add a little vintage feel.
P.S. I do NOT plan on lighting these on the tree! I did, however, burn them prior to putting them on the tree to get the drips and add a more unpolished look.
